Joseph Lapira is a retired professional soccer player from Louisiana, United States. He was born on October 12, 1986, in Metairie, Louisiana. He started playing soccer at a very young age and went on to have a successful career as a midfielder and forward.
Lapira played college soccer at the University of Notre Dame from 2004 to 2007. In 2006, he won the Hermann Trophy, an award given to the best male and female college soccer players in the United States. He also helped lead Notre Dame to the College Cup tournament in 2004 and 2006.
After college, Lapira played professionally for a few years, including stints with the New York Red Bulls and the Vancouver Whitecaps. He also played for several clubs in Ireland, including Bohemian FC and Dundalk FC.
In 2008, Lapira made history by becoming the first Louisiana native to play for the United States men's national soccer team. He played in a friendly match against Guatemala, but did not earn another cap for the team.
In retirement, Lapira has become a coach and educator, working with organizations like the United Soccer Coaches and the Louisiana Soccer Association to help develop young players. He has also worked as a commentator for soccer broadcasts.
